   dongsoolee say: Mod is short for moderator and modification. Modificiation mostly actually, since there are more scenarios where it is used in that way, examples: Car mods, gun mods, computer mods, hardware mods etc.
   
   Game mods are purely ways of hacking/editing games in order to change things. As with most files on a computer, someone could put a keylogger or something in to them. But most of the time; that is not the case.
   If you download a legit mod and scan it, you have nothing to worry about.
