I have been told that Ultram is a member of the oxycontin family of drugs, which are synthetic opiates. They are addictive, but ultram is unique in the fact that if taken as prescribed-there is no mind altering effect. I can tell you ...Dr.s don't mind prescribing Ultram . even though it “can be Addictive too” It works for getting off Oxys etc. ,But….You Gotta Wanna!! I had a friend that used it for migraine. the best thing to do is to google the ultram website and get drug information or ask a pharmaist. My friend had to use it daily, addictive or not. I know it is a pain killer, and many pain killers ...apparently it can be addictive, found these on a treatment center web site http://www.addict-help.com/ultram-addiction.asp. also see this http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/tramadol_wcp.htm.
